            London, 27 July 1841 Dear Sir,
I duly read your favor of 5th also as also the Ms of the Lieder ohne Worte for which I am obliged to you. I have written to Mr Simrock to fix the day of Publication rather 1st Aug which I have no doubt will give him ample time to get his proofs corrected. My plates are engraved and Mr Moscheles has been kind enough to look over the Proofs. The several copies shall be sent at you direct.
The reason of my not replying to your letter etc this is, that I only just received an answer from Mr Moore and his publishers to whom I had written respecting the Song you kindly sent me. I have now their permission and shall consequently put it for shurith into the engravers hands.
I like the music much and therefore think others must also, but as the english taste is rather capricious and as you leave it to me to fix a price for it I wish for the present say £ 3 st which you may draw for with the next Amount of the next work you send me. And if the sale of the Song in any degree answers my expectations I shall be most happy to add a further sum, but if you do not consider this a fair arrangement, please to say to and it shall be altered to suit your views. The german words shall be printed under the english.
To be candid with you I wish you would allways fix your own Price for your works and if I think there is a fair chance of getting my own back again I will willingly agree to it, and if not I hope you will allow me to tell you so unreservedly.
If you dispose of the Song in Germany please to give directions, that my firm be put on the title, other wise my Copyright might be disputed and the work reprinted here by some other house. Several of our english houses are endeavouring to upset the Copyright of all foreign works.
