This note will be delivered to you by Mr Pearson, a Gentlemen of the University of Cambridge, who is a great lover of good Music and who not only can admire your compositions (with which he is well-acquainted, especially the “Paulus”) but who can justly appreciate them.
As he is about to enjoy a little tour in Germany, he naturally wishes to form the personal acquaintance of a Gentleman who works have afforded him such high gratification; and he has therefore requested I would write him a few Lines of introduction to you, which I have accordingly done.
 Any polite attention you may shew towards Mr Pearson during his short stay in Leipzig, I shall consider as an obligation confessed upon myself.
I need not say how much I regret not having had an opportunity of shaking hands with you before you left England lately; but I shall look forward to being more fortunate the next time you come amongst your English friends and Professional admirers – amongst whom, allow me to say, My Dear Sir, there is not one more cordial and sincere in the high estimation he entertains for you, than Your much obliged friend,
