Norddeutsche Musikfest fand vom 6. bis 10. Juli 1840 unter der Leitung von Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Schwerin statt. I have not a moment to write more – being more counter – engaged than I ever was before – but we shall meet this autumn,we shall meet this autumn – Mendelssohn und Chorley trafen sich während Mendelssohns sechster Englandreise. Mendelssohn machte zunächst Station in London und reiste weiter zum Birmingham Triennial Music Festival 1840, das vom 22. bis 25. September 1840 stattfand. Anschließend begleitete Chorley Mendelssohn im Oktober 1840 auf dessen Rückreise von England nach Leipzig. Chorley hatte diesen Wunsch bereits am 10. März 1840 geäußert; siehe Brief gb-1840-03-10-01 Henry Fothergill Chorley an Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig, London, 10. März 1840. Die Einladung Mendelssohns, ihn auf der Rückreise nach Leipzig zu begleiten, erfolgte am 21.
