Die Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Correspondence Online-Ausgabe FMB-C ediert die Gesamtkorrespondenz des Komponisten Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy 1809-1847 in Form einer digitalen, wissenschaftlich-kritischen Online-Ausgabe. Sie bietet neben der diplomatischen Wiedergabe der rund 6.000 Briefe Mendelssohns erstmals auch eine Gesamtausgabe der über 7.200 Briefe an den Komponisten sowie einen textkritischen, inhalts- und kontexterschließenden Kommentar aller Briefe. I now do so & (if you still think of coming to London in Spring) that if you would prepare a Note of your wishes, more might be done in half an Hour’s Conversation with Mr Planché than in as many Letters, but this I leave to your judgement. I shall be very happy to See the Book completed to your Satisfaction & trust it may still be so. Als Stoff kristallisierte sich die Belagerung von Calais durch Eduard III. heraus, und Planché erstellte unter dem Arbeitstitel »The Brothers« ein Libretto. Gegen dieses äußerte Mendelssohn jedoch Bedenken, auch weil er von der Existenz und dem Erfolg eines Dramas gleichen Gegenstands, The Surrender of Calais von George Colman d. J., erfahren hatte. Infolge von Missverständnissen und Briefverlusten war es zu einem vorläufigen Erliegen des Projekts gekommen, als Mendelssohn am 23. April 1839 Chappell gegenüber die Rücksendung des Librettos ankündigte (siehe Brief fmb-1839-04-23-05, Brief Nr. 2340). Trotz der Fortsetzung der Korrespondenz gelangte das Projekt nie zur Verwirklichung.
