I have this day received your letter of the 17th just and In answer I shall be happy to purchase the copy right for England of your new Psalm provided I can have two months clear from the time of receiving the manuscript in England to the day of mutual publication in Germany. as it would require al least that time to get it translated and engraved. The terms the same as the 42nd Psalm £ 15. 15. payable in 3 months from day of publication. –
My friend Mr Salamon who is a very promising pianist in London has requested me to write to you to know on what terms you would write him a concerto for the Piano Forte, with orch: He wishes to have it for his exclusive use for two seasons say 1840. & 41. after which you will be at liberty to sell it in any country expect England – for which latter country he would wish to keep the copyright – Mr Salamon is an influencial professor and would introduce the concerto well if you would write one for him – Pray let me know of this as early as you can by post. –
My sister Clara is not in London at the present time or I am sure she would request me to make her kindest remembrances to you – she does not give up the hope of one day receiving the long promised Song which you are to write for her. – I hope you will find it convenient to visit England next season as so many of your friends would be delighted to see you once again, as for myself I think I shall not revisit the temptation of coming to meet you if you have any direction at the Rhine festivals next Whitsontide. –
Pray tell me what you would think of an oratorio founded on the life of St Peter I think I could get one very well selected from the Bible – but I suppose you would prefer writing to German than English words. This however you might still do as you could find the corresponding passages in your german version, supposing you liked the subject –
In your letter of 17th Oct. you say your Psalm is Published but I suppose you mean that it is ready for publication for should it be really published in Germany you are aware that you have no longer any power to sell the copyright any where else. –
Pray tell me the news in your letter; who are you to have this season as your prima donna? are you going to write any thing new? as any thing that concerns you is always interesting to me.
