Monday Morning September – 23rd My Dear Sir. – I am beginning to think of moving forward – will you kindly send me the dates of your first Leipsic Concerts – for if as I recollect. They occur in the course of next week – it would answer my purpose to come to your town directly – before going to Dresden: as I would than, run down thance to Prague on my homeward circuit. – My last fixed day here is Thursday, in the hope of a quartett at yr brothers – & should Spontini keep his word, & give a Grand Opera on Sunday I would stay for that. – As yet I have heard from French Operas & “Der Freischütz” – making this day week (the 30th) the day of my departure time. – Perhaps too, you will kindly send me the names of the best hotel. – But do not have any fear that I am coming to torment you very much. I know well the value of your leisure: & I know too well the exigence of the English abroad: – & while I am anxious to gather as much good music as I can – I am equally anxious not to wear out my welcome in a country which has been so hospitable to me. I had three capital days in the stay & cannot say enough of the friendly manner in which I have been received into your family circle circle here. But I will keep the rest till we meet.

September 1839 (Brief gb-1839-09-27-01) schrieb er, das er »till the following Monday« in Leipzig bleiben wolle. Mendelssohn sagte am 3. Oktober ein Treffen mit Chorley wegen Krankheit ab.
