Fanny has just asked me whether I had any particular message to you. Though I have not this, I cannot let a packet of letter go to you without writing a line I assure you that I am still in the land of the living and state as even your very sincere friend I have been working hard since I saw you chiefly in compositions and as I have been fortunate in the sales of them I am encouraged to proceed in the same line. How I should like to come and see you and attempt the impossible in a portrait of your wife. I hope however that I shall see her & yourself in England first as I have no chance of getting to Germany this year and you of course will come to see us in the following. Pray present my best compliments to Madame Mendelssohn and love to your little boy. Your letters are so like Angels visits “short. and far between” that I suppose we have no chance of hearing from you before there. Hensels next visit to England which I hear is to be early in the spring. I hope you will not let that opportunity pass without family come to us with a line. In the mean time, Believe dear Mendelson
