            June 17th My dear Mr Mendelssohn
It has quite vexed me having so long delayed thanking you for yr kind letter which I received by Mr David & of saying what very sincere pleasure it gave me.
But now I will not waste time & your patience by writing the various untoward circumstances which peanuts are but proceed to assure you that our feelings of regard and friendship are quite reciprocal with those which you so kindly & beautifully express (in yr letter) towards us, and that you & yours will ever find us, the same true, unaltered Friends – come, when you may to England. I must say it is a disappointment not seeing you this Season, as my Sister Mary and two of her Children have been with us since the 1st of April and I grieve to think will not stay much longer so what happiness it would have been, had you & yours visited London this year, instead of next (as yr friend Mr David informs me you intend to do) . Alas! to me, next year must always be a very doubtful Hope, and as Children (in England) so rapidly multiply our chances of moving english from the Country will be less & less. Every year she has already three very soon enhanted. What a charming Player yr friend Mr D: is – he has quite enchanted every true love of good Music here and pray do try persuade him to return to us next year with you – Klein and I propose that you should come the Director Solo! of the Philharmonic Concerts next year. If you do not take compassion on us we are fast sinking – Alas! Poor Mori – It was only two nights before his Death! I saw him (as usual) breathing; about appears quite insanity his life of late – as I understand that this M: D: plainly told him a months ago of his danger – asked him if he had made his Will! & (which he then did) and informed him that his life might be prolonged for a few more years provided he lived a quiet life without excitement – this appears only to have hurried him on to his disfunction! Then he did not (like you) live in a temperate way, and take 10 hours of sleep at a time!!! Do you still do so? Joanna says she is also going to write a few lines – so I will not take you longer than to request my kind regards to be given to Mde Mendelssohn (and ever believed your sincere Friend
