Klavierkonzert D-Dur, op. 96 (Concerto pastorale), von Ignaz Moscheles am 14. März 1839 im Konzert zugunsten des Orchester-Pensionsfonds zur Aufführung gebracht. Obwohl er eine Wiederholung nicht ausschloss, wurde das Werk zu seinen Lebzeiten nicht noch einmal in Leipzig gespielt. – I suppose my Countrymenmy Countrymen – Am 5. November 1838 (Brief fmb-1838-11-05-02) berichtete Mendelssohn seiner Schwester Rebecka Lejeune Dirichlet, dass sich »Bennett mit zwei Englischen jungen Musikern« in Leipzig aufhielt. Zusammen mit Charles Henry Monicke leitete Bennett in Leipzig einen »English Circle«, mit dem er am 25. Dezember 1838 ein »Christmas dinner« veranstaltete, bei dem auch Mendelssohn anwesend war (siehe Heinrich Brockhaus, Tagebücher, Deutschland 1821 bis 1874, hrsg. von Volker Titel, Erlangen 2004, S. 185 f.). are on their way home – Should Mr PickeringPickering, John Alexander (1816-1877) remain any longer and have the politeness to call on you do pray once make him play something to you as it would do him a great deal of good. in doing this you would do me the favour as he knows nothing of my asking you –
