Though I fear you will quite have forgotten the name of Edmond Spring Rice yet when I remind you that I was a great friend of our ever dear and much to be lamented RosenRosen (bis 1817: Ballhorn), Friedrich August (1805-1837) you will I am sure forgiven this note. I know you very well through him and always I think of you as connected with that sad sad day when I parted from him for the last time in this world.

The reason why I now write to you ist that I am going to have a lithograph executedhave a lithograph executed – Der Orientalist Friedrich August Rosen war ein enger Freund Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdys und Carl Klingemanns, der auch anwesend war, als Rosen am 12. September 1837 überraschend an einer kurzen, heftigen Krankheit verstarb. Klingemann heiratete später Friedrich Rosens Schwester Sophie. Eine Büste Rosens von Sir Richard Westmacott befand sich 1837 zunächst auf dem Londoner Kensal Green Cemetary, ab 1839 dann im British Museum. Sie wurde von Edmond Spring Rice in Form einer Lithographie von Richard James Lane vertrieben und Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy zur Subskription angeboten (Abbildung der Büste u. a. in Klingemann, Briefwechsel, S. 27). by our best English artist in that time Mr LaneLane, Richard James (1800-1872) of the bust which I so very like.
