rNovellos letter and the difficulty of getting an order for two or three pounds here is so great. that, (as you have some dealings I imagine with the Doctor) if you will be good enough to send it, I shall repay you with many thanks.*
I regret the man has not come sooner, as I have had the situation of Sergeant ready for him, but now I cannot keep the vacancy open any longer it appears so uncertain when he may arrive –
I see no reason (at least I cannot anticipate any) of my finding fault with the man if Dr Mendelssohn & Mr
The Man will have of course to repay the Band fund for the advance made him, but it would be only taken from him in small portions, at distant periods, as he could afford to let his pay liquidate the debt. I could not charge myself with paying his journeyr r Novello the terms &c – I can only now repeat, that if the mans conduct is good. – & his abilities and exertions have pleased those before whom doubtless he has been tried, I cannot see any reason to doubt his giving me and the officers such

as regards Dr Mendelssohns letter I beg to remark that I sent ₤ 8. it being the sum required by Mr Novellos letter and the difficulty of getting an order for two or three pounds here is so great. that, (as you have some dealings I imagine with the Doctor) if you will be good enough to send it, I shall repay you with many thanks. *

For the Psalm let the price be what you say fifteen pounds, but when I named the price it was rather with a view to the somewhat limited sale of these sort of works – I will pay you in June at Cologne. at which I shall come if I possibly can, and they say in England “where there is a will there is a way” – I hope to bring with me some very good friends of mine from Dublin who want to have some talk with you about coming to Ireland and getting up the St Paul . but as it will not be until the year 1839. June will do – In the mean time. I send you at the head of this letter two setts of words and the regulations for a prize composition and think for many reasons it would be well for you to set them, and let me have them as soon as you can, or one of them and I will take care that it is properly forwarded –
