Mr Novello having informed me, that you have selected a Person at Leipzic suitable to be in the situation of Band Master for my Regiment, and writing I should write to you on the Subject, and send £ 7 or 8. to bring the Man over here. I have now the honor of doing so.
I take it for granted Mr Novello has informed You the terms I made him acquainted with, and what will be required of the Man in his Capacity. To Doctor Mendlessohn Bartholdy here as Master of both Brass & Full bands: as to his ability & fitness for the situation. I cannot entertain the smallest doubt since you have been so very obliging as to select and approve of him.
I shall be most obliged by your acknowledging the receipt of this letter and the draft: this amount will of course have to be refunded by degrees by the Band Master.
Pray inform me when the Man will leave Leipzic, and I recommend his coming via Hamburg to Hull, by which he can come thro York and I beg you will direct him to call per Mr Robinson 39 Stone Gate York. And make himself known to that Gentleman.
With again thanking you for the trouble you have so obligingly taken I have the honor to be Sir Yr very obedt Servant
