In sending for your inspection The Dramatic Poem of Elijah, adapted for an Oratorio, I know I am dealing with a Gentleman of honour and may fully depend upon its being returned if not accepted by you for setting to music – The manuscript, as stated in the little page, is the work of a highly talented young friend of Gentleman mine, and he has given me the entire disposal of it – And as I am informed you are a great admirer of English Literature, I am sure you will fully appreciate the merit of this Poem.
Should you deem it worthy writing your Name with it as the Composer of the Oratorio – it is quite at your Service – Several Literary persons of distinction have paged a most flattering judgement upon it. And as permission is obtained to dedicate both Music and Poetry to the Duchess of Kent, I think a shadow of a doubt cannot exist in regard to its success – Your Eminence as a Composer, will of course ensure you a very satisfactory compensation for your labour, with almost any first rate published in London. But of course when you have completed it I should feel much obliged by your informing me of the person you may be disposed to offer it to – as we then shall make our arrangements. I have enclosed the letter which contains the permission of Dedication – I remain yours most obdtly
