Kensington Gravel Pits Feby 26th 1834. My dear Sir Mr Horsley deputes me to write a few lines to you for him. He is so very much occupied this week that he has not been able to command a moment’s time for any other purpose than business. He begs me to give you his kindest regards & to tell you he has completed two Motetts – one Latin the other English. The former was tried at the Philharmonic on Thursday week, ineffectively, as you may suppose, when I tell you that it was asked afterwards “if the last chorus were for Tenors & Basses only”, the Cantus never having been heard at all. – Mr Horsley hopes it will not be very long before you send him the promised letter which he has looked for ever since Mr Klingemann’s return. I wish you may like the lines on Spring which I enclose & that you may think part of them adapted for music. You must oblige me by accepting a little remembrance of the Ottetto in the shape of some book shelves, which I hope may not be useless to you. I could get nothing better than the brass headed nail I send, to support them, even in our far-famed manufac turing country. Every thing of the ornamental Kind is made with a screw instead of a nail, and as Mr Klingemann decided that the wall of your room was brick, I knew it would be of no use to send one. We are all well & looking forward with great delight to Monday when we are to hear the Isles of Fingal . All write in best compliments to you & believe me, dear Sir Yours very sincerely Elizth H.
