I beg to acknowledge the receipt of yr kind letter, and the offer contained in it fully compensates me for the delay in the delivery of the manuscript of your Rondo – of course a Rondo by Mendelssohn must be always acceptable to every publisher and I therefore accept it, with a thousand thanks, your request relative to the payment of the three guineas shall be forthwith attended to, as also the copies of the Musical Gem.
I must apologise for the delay in not answering your letter. But I was absent from town, on its receipt and only returned last evening, you therefore see I have lost no time in replying to it. I look forward with great pleasure to the 6th Febry – the trial night of the Philharmonic – when your new Overture is to be rehear sed for the first time. Moscheles who is to conduct it, gives a splendid account of it, and I am much flattered that the Directors have appointed me the leader on the occasion, I have also an eye to business in this, as I suppose you will, as with your other Overtures, give me the refusal of it! and I hope you will give me the refusal of it, both Moscheles & myself are anxious that it should go well the first time, we have therefore agreed to have a private rehearsal together previous to the day of the trial. Now, My Dr Sir are we to have the pleasure of seeing you in London, this season, or do you intend to deprive us of that pleasure till the following one, it is almost needless to say, that the musical world in London will receive you with open arms, immediately you k proper to come.
