As we are strongly hoping to have the pleasure of seeing you at our house in North Wales, perhaps a little information as to the easiest mode of getting there may increase the probability of your coming –
I take for granted that you go to Dublin, and must return somehow or other to London – One way is to embark for Liverpool, another, for Holyhead, the latter is much the shorter passage – From Holyhead there are two great routes to London, one by way of Shrewsbury & Birmingham; the other by way of Chester, passes within 7 or 8 miles of our house –
I will now tell you a few of the inducements which this latter route holds out, and afterwards give you a few directions for finding it and us –
First then, the passage by sea is short to Holyhead, secondly, on the Road from Holyhead to Holywell (the nearest town on the road from our House) you will see the following beautiful & interesting objects – The Chain Bridge near Bangor over the Menai Strait; the celebrated road over the side of a Mountain called Penman Mawr, the Chain Bridge & Castle of Conway, and lastly the famous well at Holywell – Besides which the whole road from Bangor to Holywell runs through the bold fine scenery of North Wales – Then if you like to see Liverpool, you can as well return that way to London as by any other road –
If however you determine to come from Dublin to Liverpool, the way to come to us is this, by a steam boat which starts daily from Liverpool, and in 2 1/2 hours arrives at a place called Bagillt in the River Dee – which place is 9 or 10 miles only from our house – In this case please to write a letter (addressed John Taylor Esq. Coed Du, near Flintshire Mold, ) from Liverpool a day or two beforehand, stating the day and time at which you will be at Bagillt & I or my Brother will meet you there in our Phaeton, and quickly drive you to our house, which is called Coed Du, the last word is pronounced like Die in German – So that if you are not able to write to us beforehand, you will find plenty of cars, who will gladly bring you to us –
Should you determine to come by way of Holyhead I recommend you to take a place outside on the Mail or any other coach which travels by day to Chester, by way of Holywell – You need only take & pay for your place as far as Holywell – In this case write us a few days prev ious from Dublin, and we will meet you or you can take a car there & come in 1 1/2 hour to our door –
