            Dear Miss Joanna, Once more my best, best thanks for the true and unaltered friendship you have shown me during our meeting in 1840, as you did years ago, and indeed always did since the day I first knew you. Believe me, few can feel such kindness deeper and have a stronger sense of gratitude than I, although many would express their thanks so much better, and be more able to speak of them. For the beautiful and most elegant presents you send my wife she herself will try to thank you in writing, as unfortunately I do not soon anticipate an opportunity for her to do so in person. Be always so happy, as it is my constant and most hearty wish and believe me your sincere friend, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
