Die Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Correspondence Online-Ausgabe FMB-C ediert die Gesamtkorrespondenz des Komponisten Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy 1809-1847 in Form einer digitalen, wissenschaftlich-kritischen Online-Ausgabe. Sie bietet neben der diplomatischen Wiedergabe der rund 6.000 Briefe Mendelssohns erstmals auch eine Gesamtausgabe der über 7.200 Briefe an den Komponisten sowie einen textkritischen, inhalts- und kontexterschließenden Kommentar aller Briefe. I received the two first acts of the
stact, & before all the Ensemble in the 2
d& the Duet which follows. I also like Guillaume’s air, which you call a sacrifice to the Galleries & the 2
dFinale of course. What a brilliant occasion for the display of different passions in music they afford! I only hope you will soon send me the last act, that I may have a view of the whole & see the issue to which you intend to bring it. There are some alterations which I could wish & which I shall take the liberty to state as you kindly allow me to do so, at the end of your letter; they relate principally to the Character of Marant which I think could become perhaps more prominent & active, & would afford perhaps a kind of contrast to the great quantity of serious characters & music – & to a few parts of the 1
stAct, but of all this I can only speak when I know the whole, & therefore (as well as for my anxious wish) I beg you will soon send it & allow me then to avail myself of your kindness in case I should then still wish for any alterations. I must also thank you for the beautiful verses, which are so truly musical that I have nothing more to wish for in this respect, & upon the whole there are so many so great beauties in this work, & I so fully appreciate them, that I anticipate the greatest delight from the composition & wish I might soon be able to begin it.
May I request you to inform the same occasion to Berlin (
Leipzig August 12th 1838My dear Sir I received the two first acts of the Opera last week & you imagine how eagerly I read them immediately. I was struck with the many beauties they contain & have to thank you most sincerly for the delightful prospect which such a poetry holds out to my music. My only wish is that I might be able to do justice to it as I feel it ought to be done. My particular favourites are Gualtiers Scena and Guillaume’s air in the 1st act, & before all the Ensemble in the 2d & the Duet which follows. I also like Guillaume’s air, which you call a sacrifice to the Galleries & the 2d Finale of course. What a brilliant occasion for the display of different passions in music they afford!
