            My dear Madam,
Since I returned to my native country and my wife and home I waited for an opportunity of sending you the few pages of music which accompany this letter. You expressed the wish of having some music of that sort in your kind very kind letter which I received at Birmingham and which made me feel once more all the friendship which you so continually had for me and my family, and I felt thankful to have met with so true and unvarying friends in my life as you have been to me. I cannot say receive my thanks for it, for no thanking expressed sufficiently the gratitude for true friendship, but I am sure you know that the memory of the bright and gloomy days on which we met shall always live with me and recall every day the image of those who so kindly and feelingly took their share of them. When may we meet again? I am sorry to say I do not know when I shall return to your country and fear it may last several years before I shall again be able of doing so, and your visiting us in our country is quite out of the question, I am afraid. But be it when it may I hope I shall always find you the same, as you will find our friendship and gratitude. My wife wants to write a few words to you, in order to thank you in person for the charming pencilcase you sent her and which gave her so much pleasure; she would have done so long ago if it had not been for my wish of sending you the music in the same time with a letter. Excuse then kindly the delay and with the best wishes for your health and happiness to you and to your sisters I shall always, and everywhere be your sincere friend,
