I write to you by post to-day in order to tell you of the brilliant reception with which your sister has met here, & I shall therefore talk only of business in this letter.
You receive with a parcel, sent by Breitkopf & Härtel, the Pianoforte part of my new Concerto, the string-instruments to it in which I have marked with small notes the most obliged … of the wind-instruments, so that by playing these … notes the Concerto might be performed as a Quintett, and finally a list of alterations which I made, when I wrote down the Pianoforte part, and which I beg you will most carefully have made in all those parts I left you – the string instruments from which it was played at Birmingham are hardly to be used now, those I send being the correct ones – but the wind instruments will do, if every … corrected according to this list of Alterations, & every … wish there could be a previous rehearsal with the … before you have them printed, or before it is played … I hope you will see to all this, as it is very essential … wish also you could send me the proofs before you print … May, if not of the whole yet at least of t… …; you wanted to have my Manuscript … but as it is in some passages very … scratched out I must trouble you with sending over the proofs to me, in order to have a correct edition . The German publishers whose name I beg to mark on the English titlepage are Breitkopf & Härtels here.
I wish you would publish my Psalm (the one of which I showed three movts to you, when last in England) in the course of this winter with English words, which my friend Mr. Klingemann (and I triet) put to it. Pray write me whether you like it & what you could give me for it . I have a great many new things in my head, but am so hurried with conducting & every thing but what I like, that I have hardly had time to write a note. If I have something new (& good) I shall let you know of it, in case you should like to go on with my music. – All the … can find in my post-letter. My best comts … the friends. Nr. 1761). Mendelssohn legte dem Paket den vorliegenden Brief bei (vgl. Brief fmb-1837-12-19-04 bzw. Nr. 1821, Z. 13). Das Paket erreichte London erst im Januar 1838, was Novello am 30.
