I was going to write to your mother to-day, when I received her letter of the 29th Sept. & the enclosed, which I beg to return to you, filled up as directed. I have altered a few words in the clause relating to the arrangement with Mrs. Anderson, I thought it better in the way I wrote it, as it gives you the liberty to do with it, as you like and as it could afterwards suit your purpose to have it play’d by any other person besides her which is now entirely left to your own choice. I shall send you the Pianoforte part in my handwriting by the end of next week when Breitkopf & Härtel will send a parcel to England & shall add the list of my published works, which you wanted to have. The Quartett accompts to the Concerto shall be arranged with small notes, in order to make it (soi-disant) complete without wind instruments, I think I shall be able of sending you these also next week.
Now I hope these lines will arrive before your sisters departure, as I was much puzzled by your mothers note who did not tell me how many rooms she wanted for her lodgment here, & you know the vast difference of lodgings in this country, where many families live in the same house. Pray ask your mother to write me a few words (if even the same day when she starts, as the letter would certainly arrive before her) and tell me how many rooms, how many beds she wishes, whether she would mind a lodging „parterre“ or second floor – in short her directions about the lodgings which she wanted me to take; as it is not very easy to find them comfortable here, & I shall perhaps be obliged to take rooms (for the first few days) in an hotel here, when I do not find lodgings which I think quite snug and suitable. Tell your mother & sister how much delighted every body here is who hears of Clara’s coming, & that all the amateurs (of whom we have a great number) anticipate a very great & unwonted treat. We shall have the „Messiah“ with a large Chorus & band in the Church, on the 16th of November and a glorious thing it would be if Clara would take a part (however small) in it; I said it was not impossible that she would undertake it, though it was hard work to sing a foreign language, but that with her talent I would not despair of any thing. The Concerts are, the 3d on the 19 Oct., 4th on the 26th, 5 the 2d November, 6 the 9th, (the Messiah on the 16th) 7th Concert on the 30th Nov., 8th 7th Dec., 9th 14th, 10th 1st Jan., 11th 11 Jan., 12th 18th, 13th 25th Jan. &c &c. – My wife will write to you in German to thank you for your kind letter & the copy of my Oratorio, you sent her. So I must leave her room & finish this hasty letter. I got here 4 hours before the 1st Concert, so you may fancy in what a hurry & trouble I lived all the time since you saw me safely in the Coach.
