Now you know, my dear Sir, of how great a value it is to a young man as I am to possess a friend as you are, who in every instance gives proofs of his kindness without even the probability of an occasion in which the gratitude might be expressed better than in words only, and you know of how great a value the good and careful introduction of his work must be to a young composer, who wishes to go on with his music and to pave the way for other and better works by the success of his former ones – you know all this, and you therefore must be aware to what extent I felt indebted to you at receiving those news. Be assured that this feeling will not pass by, but always remain with me, as the recollection of your former kindness has done hitherto, and that I sincerely wish for an opportunity of seeing you soon again and expressing myself how grateful I feel for all you have done for me.
