Die Datierung erfolgt nach Klingemanns offensichtlich am 25. November 1833 morgens erfolgter Abreise von Düsseldorf: »ich darf gar nicht dran denken, daß ich noch Montag [25. November ] und Dinstag [26. November] u. s. w. recht behaglich hätte bei Dir bleiben können.« (Brief an Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy vom 3. Dezember 1833, GB-Ob, M.D.M. d. 28/160).

Instead of writing to you a real letter as I intended and ought to have done I am now obliged to answer your very kind note in the same form, and to say in a few lines how heartily I wish I could accompany KlingemannKlingemann, Ernst Georg Carl Christoph Konrad (1798-1862) who is packing up and leaves me in half an hour, & how glad I would be to spend a few days with you & come back afterwards to my occupations. I hope you will like to know, that I am even much better pleased with my stay at Dusseldorf than I thought I should be; since long I had not a busier and more pleasing time, than since my arrival here, and having now a great many very grand plans (you know this is my „faible“) I may truly say that I feel happy and well. As soon as possibly I can I shall write & tell you the particulars of my occupations, both private & public; KlingemannKlingemann, Ernst Georg Carl Christoph Konrad (1798-1862) is in haste to-day, and so excuse me. –

He told me you wanted to have some things in the score-way; allow me to send you a score of Bachs second „passione”<name key="PSN0109617" style="hidden" type="author">Bach, Johann Sebastian (1685-1750)</name><name key="CRT0107772" style="hidden" type="music">Johannes-Passion BWV 245</name> lately published, which I trust will be interesting to you, and to add a motetto<name key="PSN0112695" style="hidden" type="author">Lasso, Orlando di (?-1594)</name><name key="CRT0109666" style="hidden" type="music">Popule meus a 5 voci</name> of Orl. Lasso’s, which I copied for you at Cologn where I found it amongst some insignificant manuscripts at the CathedralSt. Peter und Maria (Dom)KölnDeutschland. I think it the finest of his compositions, at least of those I know.
