Excuse my not having answered your kind letter, but I was so anxious to accept your offer of playing the Organ at Christs Hospital, that I still delay’d my answer hoping my fathers illness would subside & allow me to have the pleasure which I anticipated. But as I am sorry to say this has not been the case I cannot leave the house as I should feel to fidgetty about it and I hope you will excuse my not coming on this account. You know how much I regret it, the more so as it deprives me of the pleasure of being introduced to Mr. Wesley, but I cannot at present leave the house.
