Accept my thanks for your kind note; I am happy to say my father is now quite recovered and although it might have become a very dangerous illness, medical assistance and a few days confinement have removed the complaint entirely and restored him to better health than he was in before. But as this is the case I must keep the engagement which I had made to go to Cambridge with the Taylors to morrow morning and though I shall make but a very short stay there I cannot be back before Monday or Tuesday evening & therefore shall not be able to accept your invitation for Monday next. It is really as if the ancient Fatum had revived in order to prevent my visit to Eynsford, but if you are still kind enough to enter into any negociations with me about it, if you are likely to be at home on Monday week (as you tell me you are engaged for the end of this week) if you will allow me to come down by that time, if – in short if there be no objection, pray allow me to try whether at last I shall be able to do what I have so very long been wishing for, and whether the Fatum is at last atoned, or not? In case of an affirmative answer from you I shall not fail to let Mr. Klingeman know it immediately & hope my father will be well enough to avail himself of your kindness & friendship towards him. Mr. Attwood appeared to be in much better health & spirits than before, he corrected some of the prominent faults in the above letter
