Accept my best thanks for the great pleasure you have done me by sending me that beautiful glee of yours; it must be of a delightful effect when well performed and I was the more sorry therefore to receive it with your note only at a very late hour, when I came home from Mr. Moscheles, where I had been obliged, as I thought before to spend the evening and had accordingly been presented of going to Mr. Vaughans Concert.
But how shall I apologize for the blundering way in which I must have mentioned the Manuscript of Seb. Bach, that caused a mistake which I could only redress by entrusting the Volume to your hands. I should indeed be most happy to do so, were not the greater part of that Volume the relic of a dear friend, whom I lost last year, and who wrote it himself for me. For this reason it is impossible for me to part with this copy, but I need not say that I shall have the greatest pleasure to give you every piece of it, which you should wish to possess and beg you will allow me then to write myself for you the pieces you may chose, in order to make up for the mistake I have occasioned.
