            Dear Sir,
I am very much obliged to you for transmitting to me the resolution passed on 5th November, at the Meeting of the Philharmonic Society. I beg you will be so kind as to express my sincerest acknowledgments and my warmest thanks for the gratifying manner in which the Society has been pleased to remember me. I feel highly honoured by the offer the Society has made, and I shall compose, according to the request, a symphony, an overture, and a vocal piece, under the conditions mentioned in the resolution. When they are finished, I hope to be able to bring them over myself, and to express in person my thanks to the Society. I beg you will let me know whether my compositions are expected to be ready for the next Season, or whether the arrangements for it are made already without them. At all events I shall lose no time, and I need not say how happy I shall be in thinking that I write for the Philharmonic Society.
