Norwood Surrey June 6th My dear Madam Accept my thanks for your very kind note, which your sister gave me yesterday evening at Dr. Billings. I fear it is me that must seem altered as I did not once avail myself of your permission to call, which you gave me at the only visit I paid to you, & that you must think me quite a ceremonious & stiff person for the way I behaved in; but since my arrival in town I have always lived in such an agitation & had so few moments to spare for myself that I have not been able at all to enjoy my friends & that the time of my stay is past almost without my knowing how I spent it. Yesterday Mr. Attwood told me that there was some chance of the last Philharmonic concert being postponed for a week, & as this would be the only thing which could make me stay longer I heartily wish it might be the case. If then you would allow me to spend an evening at your house you know how very happy I should be; I hope to know it this evening when I am to meet Mrs. Taylor and your sisters & every day they should like to fix would then be equally convenient to me. I remain dear Madam very truly yrs Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
