I was extremely sorry not to find you at home when I called yesterday & not to be in when you most kindly called at my house. I had a favour to ask of you, & as I was obliged to return yesterday to the country where I am to stay till to-morrow evening I am now obliged to write it to you, hoping you will excuse the liberty I take. Mr. Hauser (a german singer) is lately arrived in this country & as he is a very particular friend of mine he communicated me the great wish he felt to sing in the Philharmonic concert, the more so as his debut on the stage is postponed from one week to the other. He asked me whether I should be able to speak to you about this and as he is one of our best singers & a real and true musician I could not but promise it to him, though I am afraid it will appear very bold in me to ask you such a favour. But as Sir George Smart told me that you were the only person, who could do it at so late a time and as on the other side I had so many opportunities of seeing your kindness towards the musicians who came to this country I hope you will excuse me if I ask you whether it is possible still to make him sing at the last concert? He has got a beautifull Concert-air of Mozart and a trio of him & should be very happy to sing either of them at the concert. If I say that it would be conferring a very great favour upon me, I hope that at least you will excuse the liberty, I have taken & believe me to remain my dear Sir
